Now that UAVHUB is officially a CAA Recognised Assessment Entity (RAE) and the first to achieve this, we can now start to deliver the A2 CofC (Certificate of Competency) drone course.

The A2 C of C is a new drone certificate that will allow you to fly certain aircraft within the 'Open Category' from 31st December 2020.

As part of the ICARUS A2 CofC drone course, You will be required to pre-learn an online syllabus delivered via video learning with company CEO Matt Williams (Mr MPW).

When you arrive for your examination, you will have a revision session (between 1 pm-3.30 pm where we will g over all of the key learning points.

You will then sit a 30 question closed book examination which you will have 75 minutes to complete.

There is no practical flight test or operations manual required as part of the course, however, the student will need to have completed a period of practical flight training, either under the guidance of an RAE or under self-monitored circumstances before attending the course.

The ICARUS A2 CofC has been created by our expert training team of commercial drone operators and manned pilots, to cover the following subjects that meet and exceed the CAA A2 CofC training recommended syllabus:

  • Air Law
  • Meteorology
  • UAS Flight Performance
  • UAS Operating Principles
  • Flight Planning
  • UK Low Flying System & Collision Effects

Who is the A2 CofC Drone course suited for?

In time, the A2 CofC drone course is for people who own a C2 class aircraft and you want to fly within the A2 subcategory of the Open Category. Over the next 2 years, there are several transitional provisions in place for people who currently fly drones such as the DJI Mavic Air and the DJI Mavic 2 Pro.

If you fly a DJI Mavic Air, the A2 CofC will enable you to fly 'close to people' with no set distance as long as you don't overfly them. (this also applies to any drones under 500g MTOM).

If you fly something like a DJI Mavic 2 Pro, the A2 CofC will enable you to fly down as close to 50 metres of uninvolved people (and no direct overfly of uninvolved people).

The A2 CofC doesn't require you to have an Operations Manual, however, you will still need drone insurance if you are doing commercial work.

Where can I book an A2 CofC Drone Course?
